Just a little background about me. I've always had a passion for golf. I started playing at the age of 10, and by the time I was 13, I was breaking 80. After a solid junior career, I received a scholarship to play golf at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. As an amateur golfer, the highest level I played was at the sectional qualifier for the U.S. Open at the age of 19.
Later in life, golf took a backseat to other priorities in my life. Marriage, kids, career, etc. You know the story. In 2000, I decided to pursue another interest of mine that I had held since I was a kid, and that was the study of Pai Lum Kung Fu. After seven years of training, I earned the rank of 1st Degree Blackbelt.
One thing I noticed with my Kung Fu instructor was his passion for the art. That is what made him one of the best instructors I have ever had in any endeavor. That passion was also burning inside of me, the passion to teach golf! That is why I decided to get out the golf clubs again and begin teaching golf. That is what took me to the Hank Haney program!
Back to Kung Fu though. During my training, I learned some simple but very effective techniques that helped improve my FLEXIBILITY, STRENGTH, STAMINA, BALANCE, POWER AND FOCUS!


HERE I AM PERFORMING A SIMPLE CORE EXERCISE
With the training routines I have learned at the Kung Fu school, I am generating as much power in my swing at the age of 43 as I ever did in my 20s! This is even after I stepped away from the game for over five years! I attribute this to the fact that I have maintained decent flexibility and increased my strength while away from the game.
Still, I thought it would be a good idea to learn more about generating power in the golf swing. Second, the way we teach the Haney method is by getting in there and moving our students through their golf swings. By doing this, we learn how their body reacts to the way we move them. We can feel where they have tension in their body. By studying the variety of golf swings out there and how students react to how we move them, we discover the typical fitness issues that hold a student back from improving their swing.
I've learned through my own experience that very few instructors teach in this manner. Typically, you will get a lesson and the instructor will maybe adjust your grip or stance, and then stand back and tell you how to swing the club. This is the easy way to teach, and it rarely works!
